Who We Are
As a local chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR),
the Captain John Lillard Chapter, NSDAR, is one of 84 chapters located across
the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The NSDAR is one of the largest women’s lineage-based, patriotic organizations, with 185,000 members and 3,000 chapters in the United States and abroad. We are a nonprofit, non-political service organization comprised of women of all ages and walks of life who strive to make a difference in our local communities and our country. Our members have a common trait of ancestry directly linked to those who helped gain our nation’s independence in the defeat of the British during the American Revolutionary War.
Our chapter was formed in 1942 in Williamstown, Grant County, Kentucky, and named in honor of an organizing member's ancestor, Captain John Lillard, from Culpepper County, Virginia, who fought in the American Revolutionary War and supplied aid to the troops. Captain Lillard and his family moved from Culpepper County eventually settling in present-day Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky.

To encourage and promote education, historic preservation, and patriotism within our community, and honor the memories of the men and women, past and present, who have fought for our country.
